Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu [1345m/4411ft] and transfer to Hotel

30 min Drive Hotel/Resort

Our representative from Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition will greet you at Tribhuvan International Airport on your arrival schedule. You will then be transferred to the hotel at Kathmandu city. Our staff will help you until the check-in procedure ends at the Hotel. You can either have rest at the hotel or visit NGT's office for collecting information about the trip. In the evening, please join our welcome dinner program organized by Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition.

Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu

Today we will spend most of our day sightseeing around some of the world heritage sites of UNESCO inside Kathmandu valley. Most importantly we will complete all the necessary paper works and make other preparations required for Kwangde Peak Climbing.
Note: It is not possible to visit all world heritage sites in Kathmandu within a day. So you can choose at least 3-4 places for day sightseeing.

Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla [2800m/9184ft] & Trek to Phakding [2640m/8659ft][

45 min Flight & 4 hrs Trek Lodge

After having our breakfast at the hotel, we will be transferred to the domestic airport for an early morning scenic flight to the airstrip of Lukla. Lukla is the gateway to Khumbu and the entire Everest region of Nepal. After landing at the airport, we collect our bag packs and start our trek by following the trail that is gradual uphill trekking along the left bank of Dudh Koshi river. Over trek continues passing through scrubby pine forest and painted mani walls towards Phakding.

Day 04: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar [3440m/11283ft]

5-6 hrs Trek Lodge

Leaving Phakding we start our trekking by crossing a long suspension bridge and follow an undulating trail towards Benkar. From there we head towards crossing Dudh Koshi river once again before climbing to a small village of Monjo. We continue our uphill trekking passing through dense rhododendron forest towards Sagarmatha National Park entry post. After registration at the entry post, we descend on stone steps to another suspension bridge before making a long climb to Namche Bazaar. There is a police check post before entering Namche where we must register.

Day 05: A day for rest at Namche Bazaar – for Acclimatization

Lodge

By now we have reached over 3000 meters above sea level. Thus, acclimatization is very necessary to avoid mental and physical sickness and to ensure a successful summit climb of Kwangde Peak. Namche is an extensive market town where there is always something to see and places to explore. It is an ideal place to spend a rest day for acclimatization at the high altitude before heading off towards Thame. For acclimatization, we can walk up to Khunde Hospital which was set-up by Sir Edmund Hillary, or a one hour walk up to the Syangboche 3800m for a mesmerizing view of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Kusum Kangaru. There are also good views from the National Park Centre and Museum just above the town.

Day 06: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Thame [3830m/12562ft]

4-5 hrs Trek Lodge

After spending a full day exploring around Namche Bazaar, we will follow the route that turns west and heads up the Bhote Koshi valley. Our trek passes along several mani walls, carved stones and prayers flags, all representing the ancient Tibetan Buddhist culture. Our trail descends down to Bhote Koshi river before climbing towards Thame. Thame Gompa is situated above the village and is the site for a spring celebration of Mani Rimdu festival. We will spend our overnight at Thame.

Day 07: Trek from Thame to Kwangde Peak Base Camp [4700m/15416ft]

4-5 hrs Trek Tented Camp

Leaving Thame we will follow the trail that is a gradual ascend all the way towards Kwangde Peak Base Camp. After a few hours of trekking, we will enter the harsh alpine vegetation and to a good camping site where we will set up our Base Camp for Kwangde Peak Climbing.

Day 08: Acclimatization day at Kwangde Peak Base Camp

Tented Camp

Proper acclimatization is very crucial in higher altitudes. Altitude sickness can create obstacles in reaching the summit of Kwangde Peak. Thus, we will take it easy and spend our day exploring the base camp or maybe doing some hiking/climbing that is best for acclimatization.

Day 09: Ascend from Base Camp to High Camp [5200m/17056ft]

4-5 hrs Climb Tented Camp

After spending a full day acclimatization rest at the base camp, we continue our trekking into higher altitudes. It is a short day trekking but can be very tiring as we follow an uphill trail that is covered with snow and ice most of the time. Using our crampons we head towards a good camping site at 5,200 meters where we will set up our high camp. Once we reach the campsite, our Sherpa will quickly set up the camps and make necessary checks on our health conditions and all the climbing gears needed for the main summit climb, the following day.

Day 10: Summit Kwangde Peak 6187m and back to Base Camp

8-9 hrs Climb Tented camp

Today is our main day as we will make an attempt to achieve our target summit of Kwangde Peak. Fully acclimatized and properly equipped we start early with the aim to reach the summit before midday, as the strong winds afternoon can create problems for us to reach the summit. So, following the footsteps and instructions of our experienced climbing guides, we will overcome several technical challenges and head towards the summit of Kwangde Peak. Our tiring climb to the summit is rewarded with breathtaking views of Mt Everest, Mt Makalu, Mt Cho Oyu, Mt Lhotse, Rolwaling mountain ranges and a countless number of snow-capped peaks. We will spend short quality time at the summit and then descend following the same route back and head back to reach the base camp.

Day 11: Trek from Kwangde Base Camp to Namche Bazaar [3440m/11283ft]

4-5 hrs Trek Lodge

After successfully achieving the summit of Kwangde Peak, we will retrace our footsteps for our return journey. Gently descending from the alpine vegetation we trek passing through Thame and continue our trek until we arrive at Namche Bazaar.

Day 12: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla [2800m/9184ft]

5-6 hrs Trek Lodge

The last day of our trek leads from Namche Bazaar via Monjo to Lukla. Our trek is a pleasant walk that goes along dense rhododendron forest, except for few short uphill climbs and then down to the Bhote- Koshi River crossing it three times. The last uphill climb of around forty-five minutes will bring us back to Lukla. We will celebrate the successful completion of our Kwangde Peak Climbing with our crew when we arrive at Lukla.

Day 13: Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu [45Min flight] then transfer to Hotel

45 min Flight & 30 min Drive Hotel/Resort

After having our breakfast, we will take an early morning scenic flight from Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu. After arriving at Kathmandu, you will be transferred to the hotel. You can either have rest at Hotel or pay a visit to attraction destination (world heritage sites of UNESCO) sites that weren’t possible on the second day of the trip. Walking around the busy streets of Kathmandu can be worth spending good time around Kathmandu city.

Day 14: Leisure day in Kathmandu

Hotel/Resort

You would surely like to see as much of Kathmandu as possible. An early start is practical to visit the temples of Kathmandu. Also, walking around the shopping area of Thamel is worth spending quality time at Kathmandu. We will celebrate the successful completion of our Kwangde Peak Climbing and have a final meal together in the evening.

1. How difficult is it to get visa for Nepal?

You don't need to worry about getting a visa for Nepal as you can apply for Visa on arrival once your land at Kathmandu International Airport. It would take you around 30 minutes to complete all the paper works and you will be granted a visa.Following items are needed to apply for a visa on arrival:

2. What is the recommended season for Kwangde Peak Climbing Tour?

There are four seasons available in Nepal due to the weather condition and other circumstances we recommend to travel on the month of March, April May and September, October and November.

3. Where do I get the insurance from?

In Nepal, we cannot issue your climbing insurance so you have to do it on your own. There are various companies which will provide you with insurance. If you need a suggestion then you can visit here.

4. How much weight can I take to Kwangde Peak Climbing trip?

It's better if you limit your weight to around 25 kilograms per person.

5. Do I need to carry Oxygen cylinder and Gamow Bag?

Normally, you don't need to carry an oxygen cylinder and Gamow bag as Kwangde Peak is an easy peak climbing. In case of your requirements or your health issue, the staff of our company Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition will provide you in case of an emergency.

6. How experienced and fit will be the guide?

7. Do I get internet/ telephone facilities while climbing Kwangde Peak?

For communication, we have satellite phone through which you can communicate with your friends or relatives for which you have to pay USD $3 per minute. In case of an emergency, communication with our company will be free of cost. Due to remote sections, the mobile network is not available but you can use the internet in Khare (5000 m).

8. Will my money be refunded if I get sick before Kwangde Peak Trek?

Once you have paid for peak climbing, mountaineering, expeditions, the money will not be refunded. But we can postpone the trip as per your suitable date.

Our guide was Ang-Dawa Sherpa, we have never seen such a brave and intelligent climber. We had a great time together. We enjoyed every moment of the trip.
