The Trekking Route

The Lobuche peak climbing Itinerary starts with a short 30 min flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. Trekkers will pass through green hilly landscapes, steep terrains, and foothills of snow-covered mountains. The steep descent takes you to a small airport in Lukla where you will meet the rest of our team and have lunch.

We start our trek to Phakding and Namche Bazaar the next day. We pass through lush vegetations observing the surrounding mountains to arrive at the commercial hub of the region, Namche Bazaar. From Namche, we trek to Tengboche to observe the ancient Tengboche monastery.

Moreover, the beautiful monastery has incredible cultural and religious heritage. The trail then proceeds to Dingboche, where we acclimatize to prevent altitude sickness, and trek further to Lobuche via the Kongma La Pass (5536m). The trail has many steep ascents and descents. From Lobuche, we travel to Gorak Shep and finally arrive at the magnificent Everest Base camp where you can observe the majestic Mt. Everest.

Furthermore, the trail then descends back to Gorak Shep and leads us to Lobuche Base Camp. We spend a day acclimatizing and then ascend the Lobuche peak early in the morning of the next day. After some good time exploring the mountain top, we descend back to the base camp. We then travel to Namche and take a return flight back to Kathmandu from Lukla.

When is the Best Time for Lobuche Peak Climbing?

Lobuche Peak climbing is only possible in a favorable climate. Unpredictable weather and harsh winds can make the climb of the summit more complicated. The autumn months of September-November and spring months of March to May are the ideal seasons for climbing the Lobuche Peak.

Autumn provides clear skies and the temperatures are moderate in the lower regions and colder in the higher altitudes. Many festivals fall in Autumn including Dashain, Tihar, and others. Hence, you also have a chance for the cultural exploration of the region. Temperatures can drop around -5 degrees celsius in autumn. But if you are fully prepared with warm gear and clothing, you don’t need to worry.

Spring is another great time for the peak climbing adventure in Nepal. You will trail across the rugged landscapes of the region. You can also observe the beautiful Rhododendron filled hills turning them pink and red. Trekkers can experience the scenic landscapes of the region in all its glory. Temperatures can drop around -2 degrees celsius during spring.

Moreover, the winter season brings slippery trails, freezing temperatures, and snowfall in the region. There are wild leeches in the rainy season whereas there are thick layers of snow on the Lobuche Peak in the winters. Hence, these seasons are not suitable for peak climbing in Nepal. Thus, Autumn and Spring are ideal for peak climbing in Nepal.

How Difficult is the Lobuche Peak Climbing?

Lobuche is comparatively a technically challenging peak in the Everest region. Lobuche East Peak climbing requires 5-6 hours of trek and the day of the summit requires 8-10 hours of climbing. The ascending trail from Lobuche village to the Lobuche Base Camp is steep, rocky, and tiresome. Trekkers need to have high endurance and stamina to walk through rocky and rugged landscapes of the region.

Also, the fatigue and altitude sickness is high at a higher altitude and thin air of the region. Trekkers need to pass through slippery ice or snowed stones. These stone slabs are too steep and risky. The 45-degree snow wall climb before the summit ridge makes the climb quite challenging. A 50 m ascend through the wall using fixed lines is risky.

Moreover, climbers also need to learn the use of ropes, crampons, and cables along the trail. The slippery iced and snowed stones path makes the trail more risky for beginners. The high altitude can cause altitude sickness among the most experienced trekkers. We have a dedicated itinerary that has enough scope for acclimatization to tackle AMS (Altitude Mountain Sickness).

Overall, climbers of all skill levels including beginners and experts can attempt Lobuche peak. For beginners, the peak climbing experience can get challenging but if you have enough preparation and passion, you can successfully summit the Lobuche peak. With proper packing, preparation, equipment, and guidance you can complete this spectacular climb with ease.

“Dal Bhat” is a common dish along the trail that includes rice, dal (pulses), spinach, lentils, vegetables, pickles, gundruk, and meat. It is available in the tea houses for lunch and dinner. Other chinese and intercontinental cuisines including momo, chowmein, pasta, porridge, noodles, sandwich, burger, egg, bread, and others are also available.

Views from the peak of Lobuche

5

I chose the Lobuche peak climbing to experience the region of Khumbu and see Everest up close. The climb was a bit technical, and I had its knowledge beforehand. But facing the summit ridge in real life was very nerve-wracking. The snow wall climb near the summit was so steep that I could barely see the horizon up front. But my incredible support system from Peak climbing Nepal helped a lot. They ensured my climbing pieces of equipment were right and also boosted me with compliments to help me with the climb. You should definitely rely on the team from Peak climbing Nepal for any type of expedition you plan in Nepal.
