Necessary Permits for Climbing
The Pokalde Peak Climbing expedition will pass through several restricted areas and conserved areas in the Everest region; thus, you will need to collect all the necessary permits for the trek. Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), on the other hand, has made this peak climbing absolutely free. You will not be required to get a climbing permit for this exciting Himalayan expedition.
Permits For Pokalde Peak Expedtion
- Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit
- Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit
- Trekker’s Information Management System (TIMS) Card
The Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit is US$ 30 per person, and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit costs about US$ 20. Similarly, the TIMS Card, the newly implemented trekking permit for high-altitude regions in the country, costs around US$ 17.
You will be able to acquire a Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit and TIMS Card from the Nepal Tourism Board Office located in Kathmandu. As for the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit, you will have to collect it after landing in Lukla.
Note: Peak Climbing Nepal will arrange and collect all the required permits for this expedition on your behalf.
Best time for Pokalde Peak Climbing
As an expert in the field, we recommend the peak seasons like spring (March- May) and autumn (Septemeber- November) for the Pokalde Peak Climbing. Although th trekking adventures can be done throughout the year, as this is a mountain expedition that takes you to a significant altitude above 5,500 meters, you have to consider the Himalayan weather factors and high winds.
Thus, the best period to enjoy a comfortable and safe mountain climbing experience would be during the high season when weather factors are stable and the temperatures are pleasant. On top of that, the highlights of these peak seasons are quite extraordinary as well. Spring season takes you across breathtaking landscapes enchanted by the visual of nature’s peak point. It is also the best time if you want to take your time exploring the natural wonders and rich bio-diversity of the Sagarmatha National Park.
Similarly, the autumn season also has pleasant temperatures; however, its key highlight is still the dry trekking trail for a comfortable waling experience. Due to the lower precipitation, the skies are also generally clear, so you can also enjoy the most spectacular views of the Himalayan vistas under clear blue skies during your expedition.
The temperature of the Pokalde region averages around 15°C during the autumn season. It can reach its peak point of 20°C during the daytime and can drop upto -10°C at night. The temperature is slightly warmer during the spring season; it generally hovers at the average of 17°C during the day and can reach the maximum threshold of 25°C. However, at the alpine altitudes, the temperatures can still go down to -15°C during the nighttime.
How Difficult is Pokalde Peak Climbing?
Pokalde Peak is considered one of the easiest trekking peaks in Nepal, and climbers don’t require an extensive set of mountaineering skills or experience to take part in the expedition. You can take this expedition as one of the basic climbing experiences for warm-up or practice climbing before taking on other semi-technical and strenuous peaks. However, you still shouldn’t underestimate the challenges of mountain climbing in the Himalayan region.
Even though the altitude of this eastern Himalayan peak is not as significant as other trekking peaks, it still takes you to a significant alpine altitude, reaching the maximum elevation point at the summit of Pokalde Peak (5,806 meters/ 19,048 feet). Thus, if you don’t take altitude gain seriously and acclimatize properly, the risk of altitude sickness is prominent.
Similarly, you will also trek across one of the thrilling Himalayan passes, Kongma La Pass (5,545 meters/ 18,192 feet), and cover a trekking distance of 163 km (101 miles). Also, the average walking duration during this Himalayan expedition is 6 to 7 hours. So, even if the peak itself is not that much of a challenge, you will still have to overcome a physically demanding journey.
On the mountain, there are no technical sections, but navigating the rock, ice, and snow section on the slopes is certainly not an easy feat. You will need to use the basic mountaineering tools like crampons, ice axe, jumar, harness, descender, snow bar, climbing rope, etc.
Note: If you don’t have mountaineering skills, the basic skills that your mountain climbing guide will teach you during the pre-climbing session will be sufficient for the climb.

Training for Pokalde Peak Climbing
Even if the Pokalde Peak Climbing is a trekking peak that is recommended for beginner mountaineers and considered a practice ground, you still shouldn’t underestimate the challenges of the journey. During your expedition, you will have to traverse across the demanding high-altitude trekking route and eventually take on the alpine slope of the Himalayan peak. Naturally, the physical preparation is a top priority for this Himalayan adventure.
Normally, a training period of 3 to 8 weeks is recommended for the trekkers who are doing the Everest Base Camp Trek. However, as this is a mountain expedition, you should consider training slightly longer with an efficient training program. Strength exercises like Push Up, Pull Up, Plank, Weightlift, Hammer Curl, Overhead Press, Leg Extension, etc, help to build up your endurance level.
Similarly, cardiovascular exercises like Jogging, Swimming, Cycling, Jumping Rope, Mountain Climber, etc will improve your cardiovascular health and improve your stamina reserve. These exercises also have a direct impact on your body’ capabilities to adapt in high-altitude regions.
Also, don’t forget about the mental preparation for the expedition. You need to stay focused and determined; you can practice various mental preparation tactics like staying focused, visualizing your journey, mindfulness, staying positive, managing expectations, staying flexible, etc, for a headstrong adventure.
Packing for Pokalde Expedtion
Your Pokalde Peak Climbing journey will take you across several climatic zones. Just because it is an alpine adventure doesn’t mean you will traverse across completely freezing regions. As Nepal is a geographically diversified nation, you will trek across different climate zones like tropical, sub-tropical, temperate, sub-alpine, alpine, and tundra zones. Thus, you will need to bring the right layers to fit in perfectly in different climatic zones.
On top of that, you will also need a basic set of mountaineering tools for the climbing part. So, you will need to optimize the packing list considering the needs of this remote expiration. Don’t worry; you will not be carrying all these weights by yourself. Peak Climbing Nepal will provide a strong porter to every two climbers. The Phenomenal Pokhalde Peak Adventure
I had an amazing experience opting for Pokalde Peak climbing with the Peak Climbing Nepal Team. Their professionalism, attention to detail and immense care helped me ensure the successful ascent. My guides were friendly, knowledgeable and expert in navigation. They provided their valuable support from the beginning to the end which made the journey go as smoothly as I had intended. I truly admire the effort of the porter who carried our bags and transported equipment safely for the climbing.
I am also very happy with the accommodation they chose during the trekking period. It was comfortable and views of the surreal vistas were fantastic. The enchanting views of Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu and other peaks made this journey even more charming. Talking with the locals and my climbing crew was one of the most intriguing parts of the journey. Peak Climbing Team made my journey memorable and I am very excited to go on more Himalayan adventures with this exceptional team.

Majestic Pokalde Peak
I always dreamed about a serene journey to the Himalayas where I could experience local culture, witness natural beauty and feel the thrills. I am glad I chose Pokalde Peak Climbing because it was exactly what I envisioned. In addition, embarking on the journey with Peak Climbing Nepal was the best decision. The accommodation facilities along the trail were great.
My guides were very well versed in navigation and provided the instructions which helped me a lot to pass through the steep and challenging sections.
The journey was full of exhilarating experiences which is truly memorable for me. The views of iconic mountains like Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Pumori, and Lhotse were phenomenal. I am thankful to the Peak Climbing Nepal Team for designing this amazing package which allowed me to have unparalleled experiences.

Amazing Pokalde Peak
Observing the peak of the world in its prime is always fulfilling. But it gets better when you get to see the world’s peak after a long exhausting climb. The Pokalde peak climbing was such an experience for me. I got plenty of picturesque views of Everest before at the Kala Patthar’s viewpoint. But after a short climb of Pokalde peak, the views of Everest and other mountain climbs were more beautiful. Perhaps it was the adrenaline brought by the exhausting climb. But it was worth it. If you want a way to experience the Everest region’s moutan views from anywhere other than Kala Patthar, climb Pokalde peak.

Walking through trails of EBC to Pokalde Peak
When I chose to do the Pokalde peak climbing, I had not realized that it would lead me near EBC. My Pokalde peak climbing last year gave me a chance to make a lot of friends. The trekking trails were so full of people worldwide towards the Everest Base Camp. The routes of my trip and the EBC trek converged in many places. In a way, it gave me an experience of the Everest base camp trek and Pokalde climb at once. You can say it was unintentional, but it was the best of both worlds. I highly recommend this package if you plan on any easy-to-do mountain climbs in Nepal.

Everest through Pokalde summit
I had never heard of the Pokalde climbing trip before. But while browsing through packages of Peak climbing Nepal, I came across it. Turns out it is an expedition and trekking package in the Everest region. Although the name Everest is what caught my attention for the trip, it was so much more than that. The views of Everest were immensely beautiful on this trip, no doubt. But climbing Pokalde, living in the Sherpa community, and walking through the Khumbu trails was greater experience. The team at Peak climbing Nepal ensured that my trip would be wonderful, and it was. Theirs evenly and carefully curated package allowed me to appreciate and experience the trip to the fullest.
