Itinerary
Kathmandu Altitude: 1,400m/ 4,593ft
Welcome to Nepal for your Amadablam Expedition and Island Peak Climbing. Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan Internationa Airport, a staff from Peak Climbing Nepal will come to receive you at the airport.
From there, you will board a comfortable vehicle and head toward your booked hotel, which is situated in the core part of the city. After checking in, get some rest to get over the jet lag. In the evening, you can take short strolls around the bustling capital city exploring cafes and restaurants.
To celebrate the start of this epic Himalayan journey, we will arrange a welcome dinner at a traditional restaurant. At the dinner, you will also have the chance to meet your guide and other members joining the expedition.
Kathmandu Altitude: 1,400m/ 4,593ft
It’s another day of exciting exploration. Before heading toward the most popular destination, Himalayan adventures, you will take this day to admire the rich culture, history, art and architecture of the capital valley.
Kathmandu Valley houses seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites, so the sightseeing tour in this quite extravagant. You will explore a few of those sites as touring all of them in a single day is not possible.
This is also a preparation day, where you will sort all your luggage and arrange the necessary equipment. If you have yet to finish shopping for clothes, equipment, or other essentials for the trek, you can do it on this day.
Lukla Altitude: 2,800m/ 9,186ft
Phakding Altitude: 2,610m/ 8,562ft

Today, you will head toward the mountain to commence your multi-peak expedition. In the morning, you will take a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. This flight, which will last about 35 minutes, will take you over the lush landscape, high hills, deep valleys and soaring rivers.
As you get close to Lukla, the breathtaking aerial views of the eastern Himalayan peaks become even more grand. After landing at Tenzing Hillary Airport, you will take a break and meet up with the remaining members of the crew.
Then, it’s time to proceed further with the exciting trekking part. Crossing the beautiful Chaurikharka Village, you will take up on the lush riverbanks of the Dudh Koshi River. Enjoying the magnificent views of Kusum Kanguru, you will push across Dudh Koshi Ghat to reach the Phakding Village.
Namche Bazaar Altitude: 3,440m/ 11,286ft
Altitude Gain: 830m/ 2,723ft
This day’s trekking route is considered one of the most scenic parts of the region. After eating your breakfast at the Phakding Village, you will walk on the banks of Dudh Koshi to reach Monjo Village.
As this is the entry point for the Sagarmatha National Park, you will have to show your permits. Moving across the pine, juniper and fir forests, you will also be able to enjoy the clear views of Thamserku on this day.
The next part of the trail takes you to Jorsale Village and as for the final part, you will need to follow the steep steps of Namche Ukalo to enter the Sherpa Capital. On this day, you will cross five exciting suspension bridges, including the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge.
As you ascend to the Namche Bazaar, the first views of Everest, including majestic vistas of Kwangde, Kusum Kanguru, Twache, Nuptse and Lhotse, will pull the curtain to this day’s exploration.
Namche Bazaar Altitude: 3,440m/ 11,286ft
By the time you reach Namche, you have already moved across a significant altitude. That is why it is important to take a rest day to adapt to the new altitude before trekking even higher. Namche is a proper and exciting trekking destination with many exciting exploration prospects.
For the acclimatization hike in the morning, you can go to Syangboche Airstrip (3,780m) or Everest View Hotel (3,962m). From these exciting viewpoints, you will be able to enjoy the spectacular views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Kusum Kanguru, Thamserku and many others.
After the hike, you can just stroll around the Sherpa capital, checking out other popular highlights such as Khumjung Village, Khunde Village, Sherpa Cultural Museum, Hillary School and Hospital. There are several renowned cafes and restaurants with their own unique specialties that you can’t miss to explore.
Tengboche Altitude: 3,867m/ 12,687ft
Altitude Gain: 427m/ 1,400ft
After an enjoyable rest day at Namche Bazaar, it’s time to continue moving forward in this exhilarating Himalayan journey. You will follow the charming trails of the Sagarmatha National Park and head toward the Kyangjuma Village.
From the village, you will make your descent to Dudh Koshi across some steep sections. The views of Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Everest and Lhotse is simply breathtaking from this trail. Then, after walking for a while, you will reach Phunki Thenga, situated on the bank of the river.
After your lunch here, you will move along with the winding trail across the lush woodland to reach Tengboche Village. This is the largest and most significant monastery in the Everest region. You can also visit the monastery in the evening to offer prayers.
Dingboche Altitude: 4,410m/ 14,468ft
Altitude Gain: 543m/ 1,781ft
On this day’s exciting trek, you will get the chance to explore two big high-altitude Sherpa settlements. From Dingboche, you will follow a gradual descent through the lush woodland of birch, rhododendron and conifer trees.
The breathtaking views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Makalu will keep you company along the route. Your downhill walk will first bring you to the beautiful village of Debuche. From here, you will walk along the gradually winding trail and move across the Imja River to reach Pangboche Village.
During the final stretch, you will trek across the Somare Village and continue walking on the gentle uphill route to reach Dingboche Village. This high-altitude village has fascinating farmlands that are surrounded by stone-fence walls to protect the crops from high-altitude harsh wind.
Island Peak Base Camp Altitude: 5,087m/ 16,689ft
Altitude Gain: 677m/ 2,221ft
Leaving Dingboche across the stone-fenced fields, you will enter the core part of the Imja Khola Valley. The towering ridge of Nuptse-Lhotse, Cholatse and Tawache will surround your trekking route.
Moving further along the route across the glacier moraines, you will arrive at Bibre Village, from where the views of Island Peak are simply astonishing. The trail further up ahead is intersected by the icy streams and traversing across it; you will arrive at Chukkung Village (4,730m).
From Chukkung, you will ascend toward the southern edge of the Lhotse Glacier moraine. You will also need to cross the moraines of Imja and Lhotse Glacier, which leads to the wide valley and to the Island Peak Base Camp.
After reaching the base camp, the crew will set up tents at the campsite. You need to make all the necessary preparations for the exciting expedition tomorrow as your journey will start early in the morning.
Island Peak Summit Altitude: 6,189m/ 20,305ft
Altitude Gain: 1,102m/ 3,615ft
Today, you will scale to the summit of the first goal in this exciting Amadablam Expedition and Island Peak Climbing. The scaling adventure will start pre-dawn and you will follow the footstep of your climbing guide using the headlamp.
Overcoming the steep ice and rock segments along the route, you will head toward the summit ridge of the peak. Your climbing guide will fix ropes where it is necessary. From the summit of this aesthetic mountain, you can enjoy the stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Baruntse, Ama Dablam and other surrounding peaks.
After relishing magical moments on top of the beautiful mountain, you will begin your descent toward the base camp. You will celebrate your successful summit at the base camp and then prepare for the journey up ahead.
Dingboche Altitude: 4,410m/ 14,468ft
Altitude Loss: 543m/ 1,781ft
After completing the Island Peak Climb, it is time to move toward another thrilling objective of this duo-peak Himalayan expedition. Leaving base camp, you will return your steps on the moraines of the Lhotse and Imja Glaciers to return back to Chukkung Village.
Then, crossing Bibre Village, enjoying the epic views of Lhotse, Ama Dablam and other surrounding peaks, you will make your return to Dingboche Village.
Ama Dablam Base Camp: 4,800m/ 15,748ft
Altitude Gain: 390m/ 1,279ft
On this day, you will move along with the exciting Himalayan route, heading toward the base camp of the second peak in this expedition. After breakfast at Dingboche, you will continue descending across Somare Village to reach Pangboche Village.
Upto this segment, you will follow the same road that you walked before. However, from Pangboche, you will follow the narrow route toward the northeast side. Crossing the Imjaste River and you will then walk across the alpine scrubs of juniper and dwarf rhododendron bushes.
Along the route, you will also pass some yak herders’ huts and shades. A few hours of walk from here will take you to the large grassy field beneath the majestic and grand Ama Dablam Peak.
Ama Dablam Summit Altitude: 6,812m/ 22,349ft
Altitude Gain: 2,012m/ 6,601ft
Unlike Island Peak, which has been listed as a trekking peak, Ama Dablam is a a technical climb. Due to its high altitude nature and technical segments along the slope, the Ama Dablam Expedtion has received a TD-5 (Très difficile) grading.
Thus, it is important to follow a thorough acclimatization process during the climb. The period from Day 12 to Day 20 will be used to acclimatize alongside the base camps. There are a total of three high camps on the mountain: Camp I (5,700m), Camp II (5,950m) and Camp III (6,200m).
During the Ama Dabalm expedition, you will acclimatize camp to camp and practice rope skills until the mountain guide gives green signal for the summit push. From the summit of the peak, you will be able to catch the stunning panorama of the majestic peaks such as Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Island Peak, Pumori, Nuptse and other adjacent mountains.
After completing the climbing period, you will then descend down to the base camp, where you will celebrate the successful completion of both Island Peak and Ama Dablam Expedition.
Tengboche Altitude: 3,867m/ 12,687ft
Altitude Loss: 933m/ 3,061ft
As you have completed your duo mountain expedition in the eastern Himalayas, it is time for you to prepare for the return trip. After enjoying your breakfast, you will retrace your steps back on the same trail to reach Pangboche Village.
The descending route further ahead takes you to the bank of Imja Khola. Crossing the river, you will then walk toward Deboche Village. From here, a gradual climb across the charming trails will lead you back to Tengboche.
Namche Bazaar Altitude: 3,440m/ 11,286ft
Altitude Loss: 427m/ 1,400ft
After leaving the alpine zone, your trekking trails from this day onward will pass through lush landscapes. You will visit the Tengboche Monastery early in the morning and after breakfast, you will follow the descending trail across lush woodland.
Rejoining the trail of the Dudh Koshi River, you will cross the Phunki Thenga Village. The views of Himalayan peaks on the backdrop are really captivating on today’s trail. After ascending to Kyangjuma Village, you will then walk all the way to Namche Bazaar.
Lukla Altitude: 2,800m/ 9,186ft
Altitude Loss: 640m/ 2,099ft
This will be the last day of trekking in your Amadablam Expedition and Island Peak Climbing. After eating a delicious breakfast at Namche Bazaar, you will then begin your downhill descent on the Namche Ukalo to enter Jorsale Village.
Relishing the magical scenery at the bank of Dudh Koshi, you will then exit the national park across Monjo Village. During the final stretch, after crossing the Phakding Village, you will ascend across the Chaurikharka Village to reach Lukla.

Today, you will take a morning flight across the majestic landscape of the country. Leaving the Himalayan region, you will fly over the lush hills and vibrant settlements to land at the heart of the capital valley.
After landing, our staff will transfer you to your hotel. Take your time to rest and relax after a long Himalayan expedition. During the day, you can check out the popular cultural sites across the city to collect souvenirs for your memorable journey.
In the evening, we will arrange a farewell dinner to celebrate your successful expedition and our friendship. After dinner, we will drop you off at your hotel.
Today, you will take a flight back to your home country, departing from this beautiful Himalayan country. Our staff will come to your hotel to receive you and take you to Tribhuvan International Airport.

FAQs
Among the two peak expeditions, the Island Peak Climbing difficulty is less challenging. The Island Peak has been graded as 2-B Peak in the alpine grading system. It means there are some technical segments along the ice and snow slopes of the mountain.
Climbers should have some basic level of understanding about mountaineering skills and tools for this climb. Island Peak Climbing is considered ideal for beginner climbers who want to gain some experience before scaling technically strenuous peaks.
As for the Ama Dablam difficulty, it has been graded as a 5-TD Peak in the Alpine Grading System. It means that climbing Ama Dablam is technically hard and challenging. This majestic eastern Himalayan peak is highly technical and includes multi-pitch climbing sections.
Although basic fitness with a good amount of training is enough for Island Peak Climbing, for the Ama Dablam expedition, exceptional all-around fitness and the ability to cope with high-altitude climbs are essential. Also, for Ama Dablam climbing, climbers are recommended to have a prior climbing experience of at least a 6,000 meter peak.
During Amadablam Expedition and Island Peak Climbing, you will ascend to significant altitudes. For such a high-altitude journey, pleasant weather is very crucial to ensure that everything is seamless. Thus, if you want to enjoy a remarkable experience, you should consider one of the peak/high seasons like spring (March to May) or autumn (September to November), which are the best time for mountaineering in Nepal.
If you set your expedition during these periods, there is very little probability of the additional challenges caused by weather factors. Similarly, the snow on the slopes of the mountains is in just the right conditions, so you can enjoy your scaling adventure without any issues.
If you are in a dilemma about which to pick among these two peak periods, you should understand what your preference is. If you are looking for an impeccable natural experience where you get a chance to explore the peak point of nature, spring is your month.
Similarly, autumn is a core period for the festive experience. It is also the most stable period across the year and your outdoor journey becomes really enjoyable during this period. Similarly, the foliage beauty of the fall season also shows a different perspective of the Himalayas.
Note: If you want, you can also go for the Himalayan expeditions during the off-trek season like winter (December to February) and monsoon (June to August). However, during these periods, due to the unfavorable climate, the expedition of these peaks is more challenging.
Island Peak Climbing difficulty is at 2-B level and is considered a semi-technical mountain. As for Ama Dablam difficulty it is at TD-5 level, which means it is a technically hard and challenging mountain. Thus, completing the Amadablam Expedition and Island Peak Climbing is not possible without a good amount of training and preparation.
Although Island Peak is one of the trekking peaks that is suitable for beginner climbers, in this Amadablam Expedition and Island Peak Climbing, you will be taking on both of mountains at once. Thus, a good level of fitness and climbing experience is necessary for this duo-peak expedition.
Normally, the training period for mountain climbing in the Himalayas is 3 to 6 months. Considering your fitness level and skills, you can adjust the training regime as you see appropriate. You don’t necessarily need to take climbing classes for the Island Peak Climbing, but when the technical slopes of Ama Dablam are involved, then it is a completely different story.
So, besides training by yourself, you should also take a mountaineering class which lasts about a month. You will learn everything there is about climbing in the training and you will be certified as well.
On the regards of physical preparation, you need to focus on your strength, endurance, stamina and flexibility aspects. These exercises will help you deal with the demanding parts of both trekking route and mountain slopes.
You can set a proper training routine, taking suggestions from the climbing guides or professional trainers for the most effective result. Similarly, practice hikes also help you prepare for the demanding mountain terrains.
Equipment Needed During Climbing
As both Amadablam Expedition and Island Peak Climbing take in the Everest region, the list of required permits isn’t that long. You will be able to access the trekking route with the same trekking permits, but as for the mountain climb permits, you will have to collect them separately.

The cost of a restricted area permit and a national park permit is the same throughout every season. You can collect the Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit from the tourism board office in Kathmandu or from the entry counter in Monjo.
Similarly, the restricted area permit is issued at Lukla and Monjo. As for the NMA climbing permits, they are not issued to individuals. Only government licensed agencies can apply for these permits.
The cost for the Island Peak Climbing Permit is US$ 250 in spring, US$ 125 in autumn and US$ 70 during other seasons (i.e., winter and monsoon). As for the Ama Dablam Climbing, you will have to pay US$ 400 for both the spring and autumn expeditions. As for the winter/summer climb, the cost for this permit is US$ 200. Note: Climbers also need to pay a garbage deposit for both of these peaks, which will be returned after completing the expedition. There is a risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) in every kind of high-altitude journey is a proper acclimatization process is not followed. However, as Amadablam Expedition and Island Peak Climbing goes beyond the trekking route to actual alpine slopes, there is a risk of more adverse forms of altitude sickness as well.
High Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE) and High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE) are other forms of altitude sickness that you have to be careful about during this expedition. If necessary acclimatization steps are not followed, these adverse forms of altitude sickness can even be life threatning.

For the primary accommodation facilities in this route, teahouses and lodges are the most preferable choices. Teahouses are the standard accommodation facilities along the trekking route. As for the lodges, they are more of a premium touch for your Himalayan expedition.
There are also camping options at the feasible locations along the route. However, as the crew has to carry the tents and other camping equipment from the lower part of the trails, this mode of accommodation can be slightly expensive.
For the food options, you can choose from a wide variety of traditional dishes like Dal Bhat, Sherpa Stew Tsampa Porridge, Momo, Riki Kur, Shyphale, Dhindo, Gundruk, Sukuti, etc. The teahouses also serve international menus like Pasta, Pizza, Spring Roll, Steak, Muesli, Burger, Omelette, etc.

1. Is Ama Dablam harder than Everest?
Although Ama Dablam is a technically challenging peak, due to the strenuous slopes, significant elevation, and death zone, Everest is far more challneging than Ama Dablam Expedtion
2. How long does it take to climb Ama Dablam and Island Peak?
It takes around 25 days to 27 days to climb Ama Dablam and Island Peak. Depending on the overall itinerary plan, acclimatization and climbing route, the expedition can be even longer or shorter
3. Can a beginner climb Ama Dablam and Island Peak?
Island Peak is a recommended peak for beginner climbers to gain some experience. However, the technically demanding and challenging climb of Ama Dablam it is only suited for experienced climbers.
4. Is climbing Island Peak and Ama Dablam hard?
Yes, 2-B Peak graded Island Peak is moderately hard and 5-TD Peak graded Ama Dablam is technically challenging. Thus, this duo mountain expedition is physically demanding and difficult.
5. Do you need oxygen for this climb?
Generally, oxygen is used for mountain peaks above 7,000 meters. However, Peak Climbing Nepal will provide supplementary oxygen bottles if necessary during the climb.
6. Do you need a permit to climb the Island Peak and Ama Dablam?
Yes, for both the Amadablam Expedition and Island Peak Climbing, you will need to get climbing permits issued by the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA).
7. Can you solo Island Peak and Ama Dablam?
Although soloing Island Peak is technically possible, as for the multi-day Ama Dablam expedition, it is not quite possible. Also, high-altitude exploration in Nepal without a guide has been banned since 1st April 2023.
8. Will the guide provided be experienced?
Our climbing guides are trained and certified by Nepal Mountaineering Association and Everest Summiteers Association who are born in Everest Region of Nepal and have bigger lungs as compared to of ours. It’s their culture and job due to which they will make the journey safe and successful.

Verified Pisang Peak I had a wonderful time with Ngawang Sherpa who was my trekking/climbing guide. Even though we couldn't summit the peak due to me having AMS sickness, i absolutely enjoy myself with the company of my guide and 2 very friendly porters. Never a day dull and as a first timer to Nepal, i am glad i choose Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition as my trekking company. Prakash the managing director has been very accommodating to my last minute change of plans to go to Lumbini from Pokhara. i would recommend to my friends and definitely will come back again next year to try summit pisang peak.Verified Amazing trek and summit!! As a solo female traveler (27) that had never been to Nepal, I wanted to make sure I found a group that I felt safe and didn’t have to worry about logistics. Upon arriving, I met my guide Sonam Sherpa, who was absolutely amazing the entire trek. He clearly has a wealth of knowledge that enabled me to summit Mera peak feeling safe (don’t discount just how high the peak is) and have a great time along the way. I am very very grateful to Prakash and Sonam for making this trip so memorable and enjoyable!Verified A fantastic experience on my Larkya Peak trip I had a amazing trip with Nepal Guides and Expedition! I was a bit nervous to start with, as i havent booked any previous trips with them. I did however not have to be nervous at all. The trip was very well organised from the beginning right to the end. The communication was excellent and replies to any questions were super quick. The guide, climbing sherpa and porter were absolutely amazing! Their knowledge of the area, plants and wildlife are amazing! Would use again.Verified Mera Peak We had a great time doing Mera Peak trek. Our guide Samdu was good company and knowledgable. We had some issues with stomach illness, yet he still allowed us to try for the summit (which we made) as he had established our level of experience and trusted we would back out if became unwell with altitude sickness. There were some issues with communication regarding the itinerary and equipment, but these were sorted out (so would be 4.5 stars). We were very grateful for flights in and out of Lukla, when many were going via Ramechap.Verified Unforgettable Journey to Manaslu Circuit Trek I recently had an opportunity to trek the Manaslu Circuit with the Nepal Guide Treks team. And it has become one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life.The team was professional, friendly and knowledgeable about the entire journey. This made me secure for the worries I had as a first time trekker. The accommodations along the route were cozy and comfortable. And the meal was fresh and delicious. Our trekking guide, Dawa, did everything that could make our journey more enjoyable and remarkable.The Manaslu region was otherworldly. The landscapes that changed from lowland hills and valleys to rugged high altitude terrains were a feast for my eyes. The most adventurous part was crossing the Larkya La Pass.
