Overview
The Makalu Base Camp with Sherpani Col and Mera Peak climb is Nepal’s most off-the-beaten-path, exciting and rewarding journey. The adventure takes you into the very heart of Makalu Barun National Park in the remote eastern region. It is a pristine and isolated area with rich biodiversity and some of the most spectacular scenery in the country. The trek begins with a gentle ascent through rhododendron forest, traditional villages and river valleys to the stunning Makalu Base Camp at 4,870 meters, the majestic foot of the world’s fifth tallest peak, Makalu.
The route from Makalu Base Camp is highly technical and demanding as you trek to a series of high passes: Sherpani Col, West Col and Zatrawa La Pass. These passes connect the Makalu region with the Khumbu valley through high altitude crossing. These crossings are via fixed ropes on glaciers, crevasses, steep ice slopes and open terrains. So they are only suitable for experienced trekkers or guided parties.
Having crossed the passes, the trek follows the remote and untraveled Hinku Valley through the ways of alpine lakes, glaciers and cascading waterfalls. Here you will make the ascent of Mera Peak, the highest trekking peak in the Himalayas. Though Mera is a non technical mountain, the climb requires acclimatization and at least some mountaineering skills. Its summit offers one of the Himalayas’ most stunning panoramas with five of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu and Kanchenjunga. The descent to Lukla ends the adventure followed by a return flight to Kathmandu.
You will have the profound feeling of victory and pride in culminating one of Nepal’s most breathtaking high-altitude experiences. This adventure is something out of the ordinary, challenging you as it introduces you to the raw glory of the Himalayas.

Your policy must cover trekking and climbing activities above 6,000 meters and have emergency helicopter evacuation, medical treatment for altitude sickness and trip delay or cancellation coverage.
Communication infrastructure along the trek is quite limited, especially as you move towards more remote and higher-altitude areas. This is what you can expect:
- Mobile network coverage is generally poor or non-existent on the majority of off the beaten track sections of the trek. You might get occasional coverage using carriers like NCELL or Nepal Telecom in some of the lower camps, though it will be patchy.
- Do not expect internet or Wi-Fi services in the higher camps. It is a genuine wilderness trek and availability is extremely limited.
- Your guide will have satellite phones as a matter of emergency use. This is the best mode of communication after you are in the higher and more remote areas.

Posted on trystan19632025-10-21Verified Mera Peak Trek Nepal Guide Treks offered a first-class experience. I arrived shortly after the democracy protests and there was still a lot of confusion. All the other trekkers had cancelled and there were no internal flights. Prakash Devkota didn’t let this impact my expedition and organised overland travel and I am sure ran the whole trip just for me at a financial loss. The weather was awful until we reached 4500m then blue skies and stunning landscape. Had a brilliant time being the first and only person on the Mera Peak Summit. I am 60+ and had done lots of training but found the whole trip much easier than the pre trek preparations. Can’t wait to return to Nepal.Posted on Krassi D2025-09-10Verified Good service and solution-oriented. This was my second trekking in Nepal alone but the first time with firm to Mr. Prakash. I got good and detailed information ahead of the trip and had a meeting with him the day before the draw started where he gave me detailed information about the trip. The company is reliable, honest and solution-oriented. My guide was experienced and concerned with my safety all the way. I felt well taken care of throughout the trip. Mr. Prakash stretched far to accommodate my strange wishes. This made the trip a great experience. Will use them for more trips in Nepal in the future.Posted on mesie_w2025-07-07Verified Super good organised hike Langtang to Yala-Peak Hiking the Langtang valley was wonderfull!! final summit of Yala was realy superrrrrr COOL.Thanks everyone at peakclimbingnepal!Posted on Federico D2025-05-10Verified Amazing experience around the Manaslu We had a great experience with our guide Pradip and his brother Min. The entire trip was very well organized and we had the chance to enjoy the Manaslu Trek at its best. We had transportation with the jeep both at the start and the end of the trip. The views are amazing and totally something to recommend to anyone who loves mountains. We had a good acclimatization and had no problems in the end with the altitude. The Larke pass at the end was incredible and totally worth It. Do this trip if you can!Posted on KT T2025-05-01Verified Pisang Peak I had a wonderful time with Ngawang Sherpa who was my trekking/climbing guide. Even though we couldn't summit the peak due to me having AMS sickness, i absolutely enjoy myself with the company of my guide and 2 very friendly porters. Never a day dull and as a first timer to Nepal, i am glad i choose Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition as my trekking company. Prakash the managing director has been very accommodating to my last minute change of plans to go to Lumbini from Pokhara. i would recommend to my friends and definitely will come back again next year to try summit pisang peak.Posted on Kayla S2025-04-07Verified Amazing trek and summit!! As a solo female traveler (27) that had never been to Nepal, I wanted to make sure I found a group that I felt safe and didn’t have to worry about logistics. I chose Nepal Guide Treks and Expeditions because they had good reviews on TripAdvisor and I am so glad I did!! Prakash was available to answer my millions of questions at all hours of the day. Upon arriving, I met my guide Sonam Sherpa, who was absolutely amazing the entire trek. He clearly has a wealth of knowledge that enabled me to summit Mera peak feeling safe (don’t discount just how high the peak is) and have a great time along the way. I am very very grateful to Prakash and Sonam for making this trip so memorable and enjoyable!Posted on Rexy W2025-03-29Verified A fantastic experience on my Larkya Peak trip I had a amazing trip with Nepal Guides and Expedition! I was a bit nervous to start with, as i havent booked any previous trips with them. I did however not have to be nervous at all. The trip was very well organised from the beginning right to the end. The communication was excellent and replies to any questions were super quick. The guide, climbing sherpa and porter were absolutely amazing! Their knowledge of the area, plants and wildlife are amazing! Unfortunately due to weather, we didnt manage to summit but I had a amazing trip none the less and was looked after and guided fantastically. When i got back to Kathmandu, i decided to spend the last three days in Chitwan for a safary and again, the company were really helpful to organise a outstanding trip, from one day to the next.I highly recommend Nepal Guides and Expedition!A massive thank you to all of the team!Posted on Laura C2025-02-11Verified Best climbing Went for Mera,Island and Lobuche with my friends. Undoubtedly, one of the best climbing we have done so far. Prakash and entire Nepal guide treks team were very accommodating and helped us in every step. One of my friend didn’t have enough jackets but Prakash in no time organised everything for him and made sure we all are happy. Will definitely be coming back!Posted on Shyami Black2025-02-08Verified Mera peak Climbing Wow, what's a great experience with " Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition P.Ltd". Our Guide Sonam Sherpa and porters make our mera peak climbing memorable. It would be impossible without prakash Devkota (OWNER OF NEPAL GUIDE) and his support. My boyfriend got sick at high camp, and we did call Mr praksh. After a phone conversation with him, we have decided to go down and see how my boyfriend feels, We go down to khare wait for his good health and next in the morning he was absolutely fine and we did successfully summit climbing.Once again, thanks for Nepal Guide TreksPosted on santosh s2025-01-26Verified MANASLU CIRCUIT TREK Manasalu circuit Trek was just an excellent and thnaks for "Nepal Guide Treks and Expedition P.Ltd" and Sherpa Team who makes our journey memorable..Load more
