Itinerary
Upon arriving at the terminal of Tribhuvan International Airport(TIA), our officials and representatives will welcome you with a warm gesture. Then, you will be transferred to your designated hotel, where you can relax and freshen up after the long flights. Our company will be arranging a meet and greet program for you in the evening. You can use this opportunity to interact with other fellow climbers and meet staff and crews.
Our guides will give you a short briefing on how your expedition is going to be, the safety measures you need to opt for, and other necessary information. Dont worry, they will not bore you with their speech. To make up for the time, we have arranged an authentic Nepalese meal for you. You can cleanse your palate with those meals while enjoying the traditional cultural program.

After having a hearty breakfast, you will leave your hotel rooms to explore different cultural and traditional heritage sites with our guides. These locations showcase traditional Nepalese culture, religion, and history while also incorporating a contemporary touch. You will make your way to Pashupatinath temple, where you can offer your prayers to Lord Shiva.
Following that, you will go to the culturally rich place, Bouddha. The primary attraction here is the Boudhhanath Stupa, which provides insight into Buddhism and its significance. The massive stupa, Hariti Temple, prayer flags, praying wheels, and mani walls are all worthwhile stops.
After that, you will visit the Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple, which exemplifies the balance of Hinduism and Buddhism in Nepal. Similarly, you may go to Durbar Squares to learn about Kathmandu’s regal history.
After a half-day promenade through the bustling metropolis, you will return to your hotel rooms to finalize your preparations for more than a month-long Putha Hiunchuli Expedition.

Flight Duration: 30 to 45 minutes
Today is going to be one of the easiest days in your whole 35-day Putha Hiunchuli Expedition. After having breakfast in the morning, our officials will pick you up from your designated hotel to take you to the domestic airport. Do not worry; your boarding passes will be provided to you at the airport.
Then, you will onboard the plane that flies from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. The 45-minute flight will be a scenic exploration of midwestern Nepal. You will fly over the dense building of the metropolis Kathmandu to plain Terai, where vast plains are dotted with fields of golden paddy and mustard crops. After a gradual landing at Nepalgunj, you will be transferred to your allotted hotels. Then, you will rest for some time, explore the sacred Bageshwori temple, and enjoy the vibrant open market in Nepalgunj.
Jhupal Elevation: 2475m/8118ft
Dunai Elevation: 2140m/7019ft
Trek Duration: 3 hours
Since today is the day when you will walk on the trails of Dhaulagiri VII, you will start the day early in the morning with an early breakfast. Then, you will move to the domestic airport, from where you will take a 20 to 35-minute flight to Jhupal, a village in the Dolpa district. After making the necessary preparations, you will start to walk on the broad path that leads you to the terraced field. After descending below and passing the villages and other settlement areas, you will come across the Thuli Bheri River. You will cross a suspension bridge over the fast-flowing river and make your way through the lush forest that leads to a broad dirt track trail before arriving at Dunai.
After arriving at Dunai, you will see the bustle of people, as this area is the administrative headquarters of the Dolpa region. You will end today’s trek at a teahouse in Dunai with a heavy meal.
Dunai Elevation: 2140m/7019ft
Tarakot Elevation: 2850m/9348ft
Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hours
On the fourth day of the Putha Hiunchuli journey, you’ll enjoy everything from the unusual experience of walking on a rough Dolpa route to negotiating the deep forest. Today will be a short trek as you will take a short uphill to reach the small Tarakot village at the Thuli Bheri river’s confluence.
As you follow the Bheri and Barbung rivers into a massive valley densely forested with pine trees, you will arrive at Tarakot village, which offers you extensive opportunities for camping. This place is an ancient fortress town from the 14th to 17th century.
Tarakot Elevation: 2850m/9348ft
Musikhola Elevation: 2875m/9430ft
Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hours
Leaving the village of Tarakot behind, you will move early in the morning to reach Musikhola. The trail will initially be wide, but as you continue to hike, the paths will start to get rugged and narrow. After traversing the gorges and forest of cedar trees, you will start to walk on the bank of the Tarap Chu River. On the way, you will come across old Sandul Gomba, located at the junction of the Barbung Khola and Tarap Chu River.
Subsequently, walking through the dense forest, you will arrive at Khanigaun, where you will rest for a while. Further continuing the journey, you will take hours walking long, stretched steep hills. As you are feeling the exhaustion from the hike, you will be rewarded with the magnificent views of the snow-capped mountains to reduce your tiredness.
Your hike continues by walking on the wooden bridge and passing the valley next to Barbung Khola. Finally, you will go downhill and come across many lodges. But this is not the overnight stay place. So, you will need to push yourself for the final stretch of the hike towards the bank of the Barbung Khola. Moving along the right bank of Barbung Khola, you will reach Lesicap, and a few more walks on the high trail will lead you to your final destination of today, Musikhola.
After a long day of hiking, you will rest at a local tea house and enjoy the scenic beauty of Musikhola.
Musikhola Elevation: 2875m/9430ft
Kakot Elevation: 3250m/10660ft
Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hours
Early in the morning you will return back to the Putha Hiunchuli trail. The initial stretch of the trek collapsed before but has been reconstructed now, wide enough for the passage of pack animals. Then, you will walk on a gorge heading towards the wooden bridge across the northern side.
As you continue your trek on the narrow path, you can catch a glimpse of Dhaulagiri Range, Kangmara Peak, and Putha Hiunchuli, which will add energy to your undulating journey. Dont worry; soon, the broad trail will merge with the narrow trail that leads you toward the stone-paved trail. The locals used their engineering skills to create this marvelous descending staircase that will ease your hike for the day. Further proceeding with the thrilling route for a few hours, you will finally reach Kakot. You will end the day with a heavy meal and sound sleep.
Kakot Elevation: 3250m/10660ft
German Base Camp Elevation: 4440m/14432ft
Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hours
Leaving the beautiful village of Kakot behind, you will cross the bridge over the Mushi Khola River and start to ascend the cliff that leads you to the pastureland and dense green forest of birch. Then, you will walk on the well-marked routes that will lead you toward the edge of the ridge.
Further proceeding with the journey, you will pass Pangzi village, the last settlement area in our Putha Hiunchuli climbing. The village offers stunning views of the woodland and meandering green hills above it, which is truly mesmerizing to watch. Now, the hike to the German Base Camp is going to be quite a challenge
The deep and impassable ravines protect the German base camp. To reach the camp, you will need to pass two high-altitude passes. Leaving the Pangzi village behind, you will ascend a steep hill which is narrow gauge with a ravine. You will come across the first pass at an altitude of 4160 m, located near the German base camp.
However, you cannot stop here; you have to push yourself to make your footstep head toward the second high-altitude pass. You will finally reach the campsite at the German base camp, where you will set up your tent and end the long day. You will fall asleep in seconds after a long day’s exhausting hike.
German Base Camp Elevation: 4440m/14432ft
Hiunchuli Base Camp Elevation: 4915m/16121ft
Trek Duration: 4 to 5 hours
Today is one of the most difficult parts of the whole Putha Hiunchuli expedition. Most climbers believe that hiking to the Putha Hiunchuli base camp is just as difficult as ascending Dhaulagiri VII summit. So, today’s main goal is to follow the principle of walking slowly rather than walking back home.
As soon as you walk a few steps from the German base camp, you will start to climb the steep uphill and come across difficult passes to tackle. The uphill trails continue with sandy and rocky terrains. On top of that, the base camp trail is above the high altitude of 4500 m, so you have to walk at your own pace by taking some quick breaks to catch your breath. Otherwise, there is a high chance for you to fall prey to altitude sickness.
After making it to the base camp at the high altitude of 4915m, you will be rewarded with magnificent views of Putha Hiunchuli, Churen Himal, and the Dhaulagiri Mountain Range. Additionally, you can’t take your eyes off the aerial views of valleys and basins deep down the region.
Then enjoying the spellbinding views of the mountains above you and valleys below you, you will set up your tent and prepare yourself for the next phase of your adventure, i.e., actual Putha Hiunchuli climbing.
Hiunchuli Base Camp Elevation: 4915m/16121ft
Putha Hiunchuli: 7246m/23766ft
When the challenge in front of you is too hard, you have to remind yourself that one step at a time and when you look back, you will already conquered a whole mountain. Thus, making the necessary preparations is the first step in conquering Mount Putha Hiunchuli.
It is very essential for your body to adapt to the environment of the higher altitude. So, the first process of your preparation is acclimatization. You will also undergo technical climbing, equipment use skills, and other training to prepare yourself for mountaineering throughout the course of the next few days.
Following the completion of all required preparations, our guides and experts will assess the weather. If all appears well, you will then begin the actual ascent. Mt. Putha Hiunchuli has two distinct faces, so there are various routes from where you can conquer the summit. Our guides will choose the route that will be safe and easy to descend.
Since this climb is a technically challenging journey, our guides will lead the way and set up ropes and other equipment. You have to follow them carefully and stump on the icy route with care to ace the incline that rises towards the northern flank. Moreover, you will help our guides and specialists to set up camps near the summit top.
After successfully making a final climb to the summit, you can savor the breathtaking view of the entire Western Himalaya peak range, encompassing the Dhaulagiri massif and the Annapurna group of peaks, including the Mustang Himal, which offer striking vistas of distinctive rural landscapes.
You may feel like you are on the top of the world. Every hardship you face in this long expedition will be worthwhile for you after being rewarded with amazing views from the top of the summit. Additionally, you can try skiing to increase the level of adventure on the summit.
Being high in the spirit, it’s time to revert. You will retrace the same route back to Putha Hiunchuli base camp.
Hiunchuli Base Camp Elevation: 4915m/16121ft
German Base Camp Elevation: 4440m/14432ft
Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hours
After achieving the huge accomplishment the earlier day, you will return back to the German Base Camp today. You will follow the same route of steep descent on the rugged trails, which can be quite tiresome. However, the serene views of the mountains of the Dhaulagiri range, featuring vivid landscapes and glistening glaciers, will ease your fatigue.
After a few hours of descending back, you will arrive at the German Base Camp, where you will set off your camp and spend overnight.
German Base Camp Elevation: 4440m/14432ft
Kakot Elevation: 3250m/10660ft
Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hours
After filling your stomach with breakfast, you will leave the German Base camp to make your way to Kakot. The initial stretch of the journey will be tedious because you have to tackle the two high-altitude passes to retrace your way. But when you approach Kakot, the tranquility of the breathtaking scenery and mountains will make you forget all of your complaints about the high passes.
Upon arriving at Kakot, you can rest your backpack in the teahouse and utilize the rest of your time to explore the beautiful village and interact with the inhabitants people.
Kakot Elevation: 3250m/10660ft
Dunai Elevation: 2140m/7019ft
Trek Duration: 6 to 7 hours
As today’s hike is going to be quite long, you will have to leave the teahouse of Kakot early in the morning. As you walk on the trail sloping downward, you will pass Musikhola and start to walk on the banks of the river. Continuing the hike, you will reach Lesicap, where you can take a short break.
Then, you will take a downhill path alongside the lush green forest to reach Tarakot. However, this is not the final stop for today. You have to push your limits and proceed towards the path, passing farm areas and scattered hamlets alongside the Thuli Beri River to arrive at Dunai.
Dunai Elevation: 2140m/7019ft
Jhupal Elevation: 2475m/8118ft
Trek Duration: 3 to 4 hours
You will be concluding your walking adventure in the Putha Hiunchuli Expedition today. Walking alongside the lush natural vegetation as you meander along the Thuli Beri River basins on this day will be an eye-candy experience.
Passing the agricultural farms and terraced fields, you will cross a suspension bridge over the Thuli Beri River to reach Jhupal.
Early morning, you will take a flight from Jhupal Airport, also known as Dolpa Airport, to Nepalgunj. You have to take another flight flight from the domestic airport of Nepalgunj to reach Kathmandu. During the flight, the aircraft will soar over the interior Terai region’s verdant terraced fields and thick woodlands. After a gradual landing at Kathmandu, our staff members will transfer you to the designated hotels where you will stay overnight.
You deserve a day of leisure when you can fully spoil yourself after spending a month trekking to the top of Putha Hiunchuli. You can take a tour around the neighborhoods of Newar inhabitants, such as Indrachowk or Asan, and taste their cuisine. You can visit Thamel if you’d like to see what Nepalese nightlife is like. At the end of the 34th day, you will unwind all your fatigue and tiredness.
Hurray! You have completed your Putha Hiunchuli expedition. We are so happy that we have accompanied you in your amazing adventure. But it’s time to bid farewell for now. You will pack your things and head back home, onboarding a flight from Tribhuvan International Airport.

Important
Putha Hiunchuli climbing is graded as AD+ under the alpine grading system. AD stands for Assez Difficile or fairly difficult. Basically, the AD grade trek has physically demanding routes with steep and exposed climbing sections. Moreover, their significant slopes of snow angles of up to 40 – 55°.
This means that climbing Putha Hiunchuli is quite challenging, with some technical difficulties en route. Some parts of the climbing routes are composed of icy and rocky sections along with challenging ridges. Moreover, the steep, icy, and snowy slopes need the use of ropes, crampons, and other equipment for navigating the path. But once you reach the top, every step you take will be valuable.
Difficulties
Since the Putha Hiunchuli climbing is considered a technical and serious difficulty level expedition, it is very obvious that there are various factors that have made the trek demanding. Some factors may be related to the climb, while others can lie in the trekkers. So, let’s have a quick breakdown of the depending factors:
High Altitude
You will reach an incredible height of 7246 meters at the peak of Mt. Putha Hiunchuli with this thrilling experience. However, when the air becomes thinner at higher altitudes, your body will be exposed to a lower percentage of oxygen. Thus, the likelihood of climbers experiencing the symptoms of altitude sickness is significant. Hence, proper acclimatizations shall be done, and other safety measures shall be taken during the whole journey.
Technical Challenges
There are various routes to climb Daulagiri VII. Some climbers prefer to climb it from the northeast face, while some prefer from the west face route. However, every route has its own technical difficulties, like steep, snowy slopes and occasional challenging stretches on rocky or snow-covered terrain. So, you will be required to tackle those paths with equipment, including crampons, an ice axe, ropes, etc. Additionally, the distance between the camps is long which can make you feel exhausted.
Weather Conditions
Climbing mountains comes with its own notorious demerits. Even though mountaineers like you climb the mountains after considering the weather factor, the Himalayas can change the weather in the blink of an eye. You may face severe cold, gusty winds, and quickly shifting weather conditions while climbing the Putha Hiunchuli.
Moreover, Hypothermia and frostbite are actual dangers. In addition to packing appropriately for the cold, you should be ready for abrupt changes in the weather that may affect visibility and climbing conditions, delaying your schedules.
Risk Factors
It would be a lie if we said that there are no risks in the mountains. Moreover, the chances of avalanches falling add more percentage of risk while climbing. There are certain documents that you have to obtain before you start your Putha Hiunchuli climbing. Here is the list of permits and documents that you need to obtain for your reference:

- Climbing permit issued by the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA)
- Local area permit, if any
The package includes all the climbing permits for Mt. Putha Hiunchuli, essential trekking permits, and national park fees. However, the package does not include the summit cost of US$700 taken by the Mountaineering Association and Department of Tourism(MADT) for climbing with Sherpa guides after a successful summit.
Usually, the autumn season, i.e., from September to November, and the spring season, from March to May, is considered the preferable times for the Putha Hiunchuli expedition. During autumn, the daytime temperature in the Dolpa region is mild, allowing you to enjoy and explore natural beauty for a longer time. Moreover, the festive season during the trek to base camp provides you with an amazing opportunity to immerse in the unique Himalayan culture.
On top of that, the winter cold won’t start till the last two weeks of November. Therefore, the snow slope on the northern sides of the Putha Hiunchuli won’t surpass the angle of 35 degrees if you climb it between October and November, making the climb relatively easy.
Likewise, from March to May, the spring will be in full bloom, providing greenery to the dense forest. Additionally, the flowers along the trail make the trek more interesting. The snow conditions in the mountains are favorable for climbing, making the routes safer and accessible. On top of that, the mild temperatures reduce somewhat of the related challenges while climbing.

Preparing Physically And Mentally
Since this adventure is a combination of trekking and climbing, it is very necessary that you need to have a certain level of physical fitness and mental stability.
The AD-grade mountain expedition demands an exceptional level of physical fitness to complete the strenuous nature climbing. Moreover similar level of mental toughness is also required. Additionally, this is a 7000 m expedition., so this journey demands prior mountaineering experience.
Since you are travelling to the Himalayas any accidents and mishaps can be possible. So, travel insurance is the key to mitigating all the risks of mountaineering and reducing the financial burden from your head.
You have to get insured with a policy that explicitly covers all the trekking and mountaineering activities. Moreover, high-altitude medical expenses and rescues can be costly, so you need to make sure that your policy limit covers all your medical expenses, hospital bills, air ambulance, and evacuation costs.
On top of that, while taking any policy, you need to consider the services and reputation of the service provider or insurer. It is beneficial if you take travel insurance policies that will offer additional options of cancel-for-any-reason coverage. Accomodation
The accommodation in the Putha Hiunchuli Expedition can vary as per the routes you take and arrangements you make for the expedition. In the lower altitude, we will provide you with accommodations in teahouses and lodges on a twin-sharing basis. Some teahouses may have attached Western-style bathrooms but some may have traditional squat-style bathroom that needs to be used in shared vicinity.
As you move up to base camp areas, your mode of accommodation will be a tent. Furthermore, during the climbing process amidst the mountain, our guides and other members will set up tents in different locations of higher camps.
Food
In the teahouse and lodges, you can get a different variety of food from traditional and regional foods to Indian, Tibetan, and foreign specialties. However, as you make your way to base camps and higher camps, the team arranged by the guided expedition will arrange food for you. So the types of food will vary as per their arrangements.
