Best Time for Expedition
Yala Peak Climbing experience is considered to be best during the popular seasons like autumn and spring. The favorable climatic conditions and ideal temperatures add comfort factors to your Himalayan expedition, making the journey more satisfying.
Spring, in particular, is candy to the eyes; the lush and colorful landscapes of the peak season of nature make the trekking part of this expedition a truly memorable experience. The wildlife and birdlife exploration prospects of this pinnacle season of nature make it popular among both trekkers and mountaineers. The temperature of the lower trekking trail during the spring season hovers around 10°C to 31°C.
Autumn, on the other hand, is popular for its pleasantness. Pleasant weather, pleasant temperature, pleasant terrain, and wide-unobstructed views of the Himalayan vistas would be the simple definition of this magnificent season. You will also be able to add cultural prospects to your Himalayan exploration in this season.
Nepal celebrates some of the big and popular festivals, like Dashain, Tihar, Chhath, Indra Jatra, Mani Rimdu, etc, in this harvest season. The temperature of the Langtang Valley during the autumn season averages around 11°C to 29°C and can drop up to 9°C at alpine altitudes.
Yala Peak Climbing Cost
The Yala Peak Climbing cost is around US$ 1,700 to US$ 2,500. The overall package cost can vary depending on the itinerary plans, side detours around the region, and quality of services & amenities.
Peak Climbing Nepal offers the best cost-value experience without compromising the integrity of the services and the overall experience. If you book this package, we will provide all necessary climbing gear for free.
Your expedition package will also cover expenses head like accomodation, food, ground transportation, cost of guides and porters, restricted area permit and climbing permit, all government expenses, and our official services charges.
However, the cost head like insurance (mandatory), international airfares, snacks and drinks, personal climbing gear, tips and other personal-natured expenses, you will have to manage them on your own.
Expedition Difficulty
Yeal Peak is one of the easiest and most exciting ‘trekking peaks ‘ of Nepal. There are no technical sections on the mountain, and the expedition is pretty much straightforward to the summit. However, you will still need to use mountaineering equipment like an ice axe, crampons, harnesses, helmet, ice screw etc.
Yala Peak Expedition has been labeled as a ‘Grade F’ expedition in the Alpine Grading System. The grading defines this Himalayan mountain scaling as an easy/facile expedition that even a beginner can easily complete.
However, as this is still a high-altitude Himalayan expedition, you will need to be on the lookout for several difficult factors of this adventure while climbing Yala Peak.
Altitude Gain
Altitude gain is one of the major hurdles of this Himalayan adventure. In this Himalayan scaling adventure, you will ascend way over 2,500 meters in the alpine region. So, risks of High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE), Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), and High Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE) are pretty high.
Starting your trekking expedition from Dhunche [1,966 meters/ 6,450 feet], you will overcome the highest elevation point of this adventure, Yala Peak [5,500 meters/ 18,044 feet]. That’s why you must acclimatize properly and pay attention to any signs in your body that are related to various forms of altitude sickness.
Total Distance
The total trekking distance of this iconic Himalayan scaling adventure is approximately 77km (48 miles). During the trekking part, you will trek for about 5-6 hours almost every day on average. The trekking trails are not that particularly challenging, but moving along the ascending route to high altitudes can be particularly draining.
Remoteness
Although this scaling adventure takes you through a mainstream trekking region in the country, this is still a remote exploration. The Himalayan region in Nepal is a secluded region that doesn’t have a proper transport mode, and other aspects of development of the region are also pretty much limited. So, during your scaling adventure, you will have to adjust to the available services available in the region, basic to moderate.
Weather Factors
Mountain expeditions in Nepal can be done throughout the year. The peak season like spring and autumn, do have some stable factors. However, the how altitude alpine climatic conditions are not always unpredictable. The stakes are even higher if your expedition is set for the off seasons like winter and monsoon, which already have poor and unfavorable climatic conditions.
Is This Expedition Right for Me?
The success rate of climbing Yala Peak is above 95%. This success rate gives a proper insight into how easy this iconic Himalayan expedition actually is. Still, you shouldn’t underestimate the challenges of this expedition because of its overall success rate.
If you are determined and put enough effort into your preparation part, you can make the experience comfortable. But, if you are not well prepared, then the trekking and scaling part can be physically draining. You will also have difficulty acclimatizing to high altitudes without enough preparation.
So, it all comes down to how much effort you are willing to put into making your Himalayan expedition fun throughout every bit. Otherwise, even with a moderate level of fitness and good health, you can complete this expedition without any worries.
Although you don’t need prior trekking or mountaineering experience to do this expedition, it will certainly be helpful if you have any kind of experience.
Accomodation, Food, and Beverages
Yala Peak Climbing takes you across the mainstream trekking route of the Langtang Valley Trek. This is the third most popular trekking region in the country, right behind the Annapurna Circuit Trek and Everest Base Camp Trek. So you can enjoy a moderate level of food and accommodation services regardless of its label as a remote exploration.
Accomodation
During your 16 Days Yala Peak Climbing, you will spend 4 nights at a star hotel located in the heart of Kathmandu. The room services and amenities are top-tier during your stay in Kathmandu.
However, the accommodation services along the trekking route are pretty much moderate. Unlike the global chain hotels at the heart of the capital, lodges/teahouses in the Langtang region are run by the natives. Still, in your 11 nights at the teahouses/lodge enroute, you will stay in a clean and warm room.
You will receive all the basic amenities like a comfy mattress, blanket and pillow. The teahouses at the lower region have attached bathroom facilities. But at higher altitudes, the bathroom is either outside or in the communal area for the floor.
Food
Yala Peak Nepal also introduced you to a wide range of delicacies in the country. The teahouse trekking in Nepal is also popular due to this reason. From savory regional dishes to Tibetan and Indian culture influences cuisines as well as popular Western dishes, you can relish a wide range of delicacies on your expedition.
Menus for Breakfast: Bread, toast, jam, butter, honey, tea, coffee, fresh juices, eggs, fruits, oats, cornflakes, Tibetan bread, muesli, paratha, chapati, porridge, pancake, etc
Menus for Lunch and Dinner: Sandwich, pizza, pasta, steak, spaghetti, noodles, dumplings, fries, spring rolls, pasta, chowmein, momo, tsampa, thukpa, shyaphale, etc
Beverages
You can enjoy a diverse range of beverages during this popular mountain expedition in the Langtang region. You will find branded Western drinks, canned juice, fresh juice, local alcohol and beverages at the teahouses in the trekking route.
However, you shouldn’t consume any alcoholic beverages during your expedition. Doing a trek under the influence of alcohol can be risky at high altitudes, and it can also affect the acclimatization process.
As for drinking water, bottled mineral water is a hazard to nature, so we recommend you fill up your bottles at water stations. You should drink at least 3-4 liters of water during each day of your adventure for a comfortable experience and an easy acclimatization process.
You will also be able to purchase boiled water at the teahouses, which cost around US$ 1 to US$ 2 per pot. Don’t forget to use a purification solution or tablet to make your drink safer.
Permits
As climbing Yala Peak is an easily accessible expedition, you do not need a climbing permit. However, you will still need to get two permits to do this iconic Himalayan expedition.
- Langtang National Park Permit
- TIMS Card (Trekker’s Information Management System)
A Langtang National Park Permit costs US$ 30 for foreign climbers. The citizens of the SAARC nations have to pay only NPR 1,500, and Nepali climbers have to pay NPR 100. Similarly, the cost of a TIMS Card for international climbers is US$ 17, and it costs approximately NPR 1,000 for SAARC citizens. Nepali climbers do not need a TIMS Card to do this expedition.
Training and Preparation
The minimum recommended training and preparation period for the Himalayan mountain expedition is 3- 6 months. However, unlike other high-altitude peaks with challenging technical segments, Yala Peak [5,500 meters/ 18,044 feet] is a straightforward trekking peak.
So, you don’t need to prepare a strenuous training regime for the expedition. However, you still shouldn’t underestimate the obstacles of this high-altitude adventure. You are recommended to prepare more than the average trekking preparation period which is about 4-8 weeks.
There are generally three factors that you have to emphasize during your preparation: strength training, cardiovascular training, and mental preparation.
Strength Exercises Recommendation: Push up, plank, weightlift, squat, pull up, calf raises, overhead press, upright row, leg press, leg extensions, lunge, bicep curl, dip, etc
Cardiovascular Exercises Recommendation: Running, swimming, dancing, mountain climbers, aerobics, cardio, burpee, jumping rope, high knees, etc
Mental Preparation
Although physical preparation is significantly important for Himalayan trekking and mountain expeditions, you should equally prioritize mental preparation. Strong determination takes you a long way when facing challenges and hurdles. You might have to face several challenges and discomforts during your Himalayan adventure. So, mental preparation helps you adjust properly and overcome the challenges of your expedition.
Mental Preparation Techniques
- Mediate
- Controlled breathing practice
- Keep your mind occupied with positive thoughts
- Keep positive and cheerful people around you
- Learn to stay positive throughout any situation
- Visualize your adventure
- Identify your fears and work on them
- Practice leaving your comfort zone

Amazing Experience at Yala Peak
We are friends with Mr Prakash(Owner of Nepal Guide Treks). So, I want to climb Yala Peak in Spring 2016. He helps me a lot arranging everything for our climbing with my friends. Mr Prakash sent us a highly experienced Sherpa guide Dendi Sherpa having more than 20 times climb Yala Peak.
He headed to Yala Peak for next-level adventure. We trek several our more than 7 days, each day we trek around 6-7 hours. One thing, I love is landscapes in this area and many villages and it’s peoples. We reach the base camp and then we summit the Yala Peak.
From the top, Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa and many other peaks. Our guide was professional, he helps in the way to the summit. That was a wonderful experience of peak climbing. We back to base camp and way back to Kathmandu.
All credit goes to Nepal Guide Treks team having a professional guide and staff.
Thanks a lot.
