General FAQs
Island Peak (6,189m), Mera Peak (6,476m), and Lobuche East (6,119m) stand out as top choices for novice climbers due to their accessible routes and stunning views. These "trekking peaks" require basic mountaineering skills, fixed ropes on key sections, and a guide, making them ideal for transitioning from trekking.
Climbers must obtain a Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) permit for peaks under 7,000m, plus a restricted area permit like the Sagarmatha National Park fee for Everest region climbs. Climbing without these is illegal, with fines up to USD 5,000; always go through a licensed agency.
Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) offer the best weather—clear skies, stable snow, and moderate temperatures for safer ascents. Avoid monsoons (June-August) due to heavy rain and winter (December-February) for extreme cold, though pre-monsoon can work for fit groups.
