Information
The most ideal season for Mera Peak Climbing is considered to be the peak seasons like spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). Both of these seasons are known for their stable weather, warm climatic conditions, and dry trails which are ideal for every kind of outdoor adventure.
However, both of these seasons have particular highlight points that charm travelers. The spring season in particular is known as the blooming season in the Himlayas that covers the lower trekking trails with colorful wildflowers. The bright colorful varieties of the rhododendron flowers and their sweet fragrance as well as the opportunity to witness the endangered high Himlayan wildlife in the spring season make the trekking a delightful experience.
The temperature of the Mera region during the springtime is usually around 15°C to 20°C, but you can expect the temperature to drop to -8°C during the morning and nights at the higher altitude. Similarly, the autumn season is known for the most stunning and clear views of the Himlayan vistas.
During the autumn season, the temperature of the Mera region is at a moderate level, the landscapes washed by the monsoon rain are super fresh and the waterfalls and rivers nourished by the monsoon rain are at their pinnacle. The autumn season is also known as the festive season in Nepal which celebrates some of the grandest festivals in the country like Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath.
So the exploration prospects during this peak season is unparalleled to any other season making it the top choice among climber and trekkers. The temperature of the Mera region during the autumn is around 10°C to 18°C during the day and can drop to minus degrees during the early mornings and night. You can expect the climate to get colder during the morning and nights at altitudes over 4,000 meters during both of these seasons.

Regardless of the Mera Peak Climbing being one of the easiest mountains to climb for mountaineering beginners, what you need to understand is this fascinating expedition takes you to the summit of the 6,000-meter class mountain, which is no joke.
There are several factors that contribute to the overall difficulty level of the Mera Peak expedition, let’s check out the most significant ones.
Elevation Gain
Without a doubt, the elevation gain of the Mera Peak expedition is one of the major difficulty factors. As it is hard for the human body to easily acclimatize to an altitude over 2,500 meters, there are also risks for altitude sickness that the climbers have to be on the lookout for.
Starting your magnificent adventure from Lukla at 2,800 meters (9,186 meters) you will move along the ascending trails overcoming some of the major elevation jump points like Zatrawal Pass (4,600 meters), Tuli Kharka (4,300 meters), Khare (5,000), and the highest elevation point of the entire expedition, Mera Peak summit at 6,461 meters (21,197 feet).
Thus you have to prepare yourself properly to overcome the challenges at these significant altitudes and also stay on the lookout for any symptoms of altitude sickness.
Technical Section
Even though the Mera Peak expedition is considered a non-technical mountain due as it lacks strenuous climbing sections which demands a high level of mountaineering skills. There are still climbing sections on the mountain that require some technical skills, especially at the glacial segments and the dome near the summit.
However, just the basic level of mountaineering skills will be enough to overcome these segments, you will need to have a firm understanding of mountaineering equipment like jumars, ice axes, fixed rope, ice screws, etc.
Trekking Distance
The trekking distance in the Mera Peak expedition is another significant difficulty factor of the adventure. In Mera Peak Climbing you will cover an approximate distance of 125 km (78 miles), so you will be trekking for about 5- 6 hours on average during each day of your adventure.
It may not be that much vexing for the well-prepared and trained climbers but if you are new to the high-altitude adventure and haven’t done enough training it can be a hard factor to overcome. Furthermore, you will also be carrying your luggage within the rising altitude where even simple trekking can be really tiring.
After overcoming the moraine trails, you will switch to the climbing trails of ice and snow, although is not that technical, climbing in the alpine environment is not an easy feat.
Remoteness
The Himlayan region in Nepal is an underdeveloped region, due to the lack of proper transportation modes in the region, there is much infrastructural development. The services and amenities you receive in your trekking trail are of moderate level and as the transportation via mules, yaks, and porters can be costly, you also expect the prices to be relatively higher than the lower region.
Similarly, the technological advancement and the medical facilities along the route are limited. You will not be able to enjoy the basic free electricity and internet amenities during your stay at the teahouses. Also, due to the lack of proper medical facilities along the trail, the only rescue option in the case of an emergency is via helicopter flight.
The permits are necessary because it helps to keep the record of trekkers and climbers. Similarly, the revenue collected through it is used for the regulation of trekkings and climbings and preservation of the natural environment. To climb Mera Peaks you need to obtain the following permits:
The Climbing Permit
The Mera Peak climbing permit is issued by the Nepal Mountaineering Association and it costs US$ 250 if you ascend the peak in spring. Similarly, if you plan to summit it in autumn the cost of permit is US$ 125. In the winter and summer seasons, the permit costs US$ 70. You will need this permit for both of the routes of Mera Peak.
Local Area Permits: The local area permit is required for Mera Peak climbing and it
costs Rs. 2000 (US$ 15).
Sagarmatha National Park Permit: The cost of Sagarmatha National Park permit is Rs. 3000 (US$22.31)

Mera Peak Climbing was previously graded as an ‘Alpine Grade F’ grading, as it was just a straightforward climb to the summit. However, due to changes in the glacial segment and the technical segments that climbers have to overcome during the summit push, its difficulty level was upgraded.
There is a snowy dome 40- 50 meters before the summit that climbers have to overcome using jumars on the fixed rope during the Mera Peak expedition. That’s the only challenging part of this expedition that is specifically designed for the budding mountaineers.
As the Mera Peak expedition is a fully guided adventure, our expert mountaineering guides and crew members will take excellent care of you prioritizing the safety factors. Our guide Samdu was good company and knowledgable. We had some issues with stomach illness, yet he still allowed us to try for the summit (which we made) as he had established our level of experience and trusted we would back out if became unwell with altitude sickness. And it has become one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. The team was professional, friendly and knowledgeable about the entire journey. This made me secure for the worries I had as a first time trekker. The accommodations along the route were cozy and comfortable. And the meal was fresh and delicious. Our trekking guide, Dawa, did everything that could make our journey more enjoyable and remarkable. The Manaslu region was otherworldly. The landscapes that changed from lowland hills and valleys to rugged high altitude terrains were a feast for my eyes. The most adventurous part was crossing the Larkya La Pass. Standing at its breathtaking height was both exciting and rewarding experience. For everyone looking forward to the Manaslu Circuit Trek I recommend you book with Nepal Guide Trek. I am sure that you will not regret it.Load more
