Depending on your spending habits, you can set around US$ 30 to US$ 50 per day as personal expenses for your expedition.
Internet Service and Charging
As your Mera and Island Peak Expedition takes place in one of the major trekking and mountaineering regions, you don’t have to worry about the modern amenities. During your Himalayan adventure in the eastern part, you will be able to use both internet and charging services.
Everest Link is one of the most popular options for using the internet in this route. Similarly, mobile network operators like Ncell and NTC do offer data packages at reasonable prices. However, at the remote part of the trails, there might not be good coverage for the internet facility.
As for the charging facility, it is available throughout the route, from the hydropower regions to the settlements that are dependent on solar power. That’s why the charging cost along the route may differ depending on the altitude.
Hot Shower and Laundry Services
Everest region offers a good level of accommodation facilities from standard to luxury establishments. Both hot shower and laundry services are available even in the standard level of accommodation establishments.
The lower part of the trail does house the modern style bathroom facilities with a flush system and hot shower. However, at the farthest and most remote part of the region, the available services are much more basic.
During such part, you will have to use the traditional latrine-style bathroom facilities. Similarly, you can buy hot bucket water to take a bath; nonetheless, you will still be able to maintain hygiene and sanitization standards.
Required Physical Fitness
We have already discussed that Mera Peak Climbing difficulty is at an Alpine Grade PD level and Island Peak Climbing difficulty is at 2B Level. So, both of these peaks are semi-technical that require climbers to have a good level of fitness and a basic understanding of mountaineering skills.
For these iconic expeditions, you will need to have a good level of strength, endurance and cardiovascular fitness. You will need to train at least 3 to 4 months to have a comfortable experience while scaling these peaks.
Strength and muscle conditioning will help you meet the physical demands of the expedition. Upper body, lower body and core strength training exercises will help you reach an optimal level of physical strength required for the climb.
Similarly, the flexibility exercises will help you find balance even on challenging terrain and reduce muscle strain as well as the risk of injury. As for the cardiovascular and acclimatization hikes, they will improve your body’s capability to adapt to high-altitude environments.
Altitude Sickness
Altitude sickness can be a concern while climbing Mera and Island Peak. As this is a high-altitude scaling adventure that takes you from high-altitude points of the region to the actual alpine snow, you need to be very careful about the overall acclimatizing process.
In a general high-altitude trekking route, there can be a risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) after gaining significant altitudes. However, for an alpine slope adventure such as this, there are also risks of more serious forms of altitude sickness such as High Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE) and High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE).
But, while doing the Mera and Island Peak Climbing via Amphulapcha Pass Trekking with Peak Climbing Nepal, you don’t have to worry about these hurdles along your trip. Our itinerary plan follows a slow pace and you will also get a rest period in between. So, there is a very low probability of risk associated with various forms of altitude sickness during this expedtion.
Food and Accomodation for Mera and Island Peak Climbing
The Mera and Island Peak Climbing via Amphulapcha Pass Trekking will take you across one of the most popular Himalayan trekking and mountaineering destinations. Due to a large number of tourist inflow, the Everest region has been developed to sustain the needs of travelers.
Thus, during your expedition, you will have a variety of options to choose from, from standard to luxurious levels of services. There are primarily two modes of accommodation facilities that are popular among travelers; traditional teahouses and lodges.
Teahouses are standard accommodation facilities in the region that offer both lodging and meals. The bathrooms and rooms in the teahouses are mostly on shared basic. There will be about two or three beds per room with bedding, sheets, and pillows.
If you want private rooms or want to experience luxury mountain staying, you can go for the lodging options. They offer more amenities than the regular teahouses, which will make your resting experience more comfortable.
During the scaling part of the mountain, we will make the arrangements for tents. Our porter will carry the necessary equipment for building a tent and you will camp at a safe and secure campsite before pushing for the summit.
Food and Water
The meal options available at the teahouses mainly comprise traditional delicacies. Dishes like Dal Bhat, Thukpa, Tsampa, Sherpa Stew, Yak Steak, Momo, Shyaphale, Yak Cheese, and Butter Tea are some of the delightful highlights in the cultural segment.
As for the international options, you will be able to find Indian, Tibetan, and Continental menus like Paratha, Aalu Chop, Pakoda, Curry, Tibetan Bread, Tibetan Dumplings, Tingmo, Pizza, Pasta, Sandwiches, Soup, etc.
You will also won’t have any problem finding vegetarian and vegan meal options at the teahouses. If you are allergic to or don’t prefer any particular ingredients, you can also make a personal request to the chef to remove those from your meal.
Similarly, it is very important to stay hydrated throughout the trek. The minimum recommended hydration limit during each day of the journey is 3 to 4 liters. Buying mineral water bottles can be both expensive and environmentally harming businesses in the long run.
Thus, the most convenient option is to use a reusable water bottle and refill it at a clean station or buy boiled water from teahouses. We recommend you use a water filtration system and purification solution before consuming the water.
